They uploaded the stories on to Photobucket so that they could share them on the class blog.

Using Voicethread with Primary Stage Classes

November 8, 2009

Voicethread is a great online tool that allows you to add your voice to an image.

In the example below, the children were asked to demonstrate to others in the class what their group had found out about certain aboriginal dream time stories as part of their ‘Australia’ topic.

There are four stories embeded in this example. Press the ‘play’ arrow at the right hand side, then press the arrow in the middle to listen.

You can also click on the picture thumbnails at the bottom right hand side to select which story to listen to.

Use the ‘Zoom In’ feature when listening to a story to view the drawing sections in detail.

Creating A Vodcast of a Class Trip

November 4, 2009

Some primary 7 children visited the local bookbinders. They were lucky enough to be able to have their own stories made to look very professional by creating a leather bound book!

When they returned to school, two of the children used skills they had learned previously to create this vodcast before uploading it to the class blog.

Use the play arrow at the bottom of the screen to view.

Follow the instructions below to make your own vodcast using Windows movie maker and Audacity. This can then be shared online by uploading it to a host site such as http://photobucket.com/

Helping Children Gain a Sense of History

November 3, 2009

The topic in this Primary 7 class was World War 2. The children were learning about what life was like in Britain during that time. They used the class mp3 players with built in microphones to interview older family members to find out what life was like for them when they were younger. This gave the children a sense of history and helped them gain a clearer insite into the class topic.

They uploaded the interview files to audacity so that they could convert them to mp3 format before sharing them on their pages on the class wiki. They linked to their wiki page from the class blog via their weemee avatars. They had great fun making these avatars at weeworld.com

Click on the avatars below to listen to the interviews with grans, grandads … and great grandads. The children devised their own questions.

The results are worth listening to!

Animoto – A free online tool

November 2, 2009

Animoto is a website that allows you to upload photograps or images from your computer. A piece of music is then selected from the site (royalty free). The music then helps to generate a video.

The example below was made to record a parent workshop to demonstrate the children’s use of free open source tools.

The website can be accessed at : http://animoto.com/

Using Vokis to Write Autobiographies

November 2, 2009

Bethany made use of her experience of using vokis in class to produce this wonderful interview with her mum. The class were asked to make up open-ended questions to find out more about their early years so that they could write an autobiography.

They took home a class mp3 player with a built in microphone and after the interview, they created an mp3 file in the free Audacity programme.

The website used to create the effect below can be accessed at : http://www.voki.com/
